20 Questions with Tim Lincecum
by Eric Nusbaum
(c) April 12, 2006, The Daily
(Editor Note: This interview was before Tim was a pro)

1.What's your biggest pet peeve?

I don't have that many pet peeves. One that was big when I was little was that my brother would be in the kitchen, then he would come out, and he would go ask me to get something from in there.

2. If you didn't go to the UW, you'd have gone to:

Somewhere in the Northwest. Probably Oregon State or Wazzu just because it's close to home, and I probably wasn't old enough or mature enough to go out somewhere on my own.

3. Where's your favorite spot in Seattle?

I really like Bellevue -- anywhere in Bellevue. The other little spot I really like is Sammamish Lake.

4. What TV show can't you miss?

There isn't a TV show that I can't miss. I don't watch too much TV ... Actually, I take that back. It's not that I can't miss it, but my favorite show is Family Guy.

5. Who is your favorite team other than the Huskies?

I don't really have one ... No favorite team.

6. What's the best meal you cook?

Easy Mac.

7. If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you bring?

My family, three of my closest friends, and probably a baseball glove and a baseball.

8. What's your favorite time of the year?

I like summers around Seattle. It's nice and warm, but not too warm like California is -- just really comfortable.

9. Describe one hobby you have.

Whenever I get a chance -- usually in the offseason -- I like to go to the golf range or just play some golf.

10. If you could excel at another sport, what would it be?

Golf.

11. What one thing can't you live without?

Having baseball in my life, because it has been in there the whole time.

12. What is your pre-game ritual?

I polish my shoes before every game, and I try not to get too nervous or anything ... just have fun.

13. Where are the best parties on campus?

I'm not much of a partier, but I just like hanging out at either of the baseball houses.

14. If you could spend one day with a famous person, who would it be?

I'd have to say Sandy Koufax.

15. What's your dream car?

An SL 500 Mercedes. I already know what I want to get if I sign.

16. What's the biggest perk of being an athlete?

Just always getting to compete every day, and getting to hang out with a bunch of good guys. You get to meet a lot of new people.

17. What one word would your best friend use to describe you?

I would say "goofy," or something along those lines -- maybe "unordinary." Actually, they always call me "Freak of Nature."

18. How do you spend your weekends?

Right now, just playing ball every weekend. In the offseason, playing and hanging out with my dad and my girlfriend, too.

19. Who is the most-played artist on your iPod?

I'm not really set on just one person, but I've been listening to a lot of Jack Johnson lately. Just really relaxing music.

20. What's your favorite drinking game?

If I had to choose, because I have at least played it before, it would have to be Flip Cup.

A TimLincecum.com Exclusive:
Dad Chris Lincecum Speaks!
11.17.08

Q.  We heard Tim couldn't immediately get a hold of you on the phone after he found out he won the NL Cy Young. Did he leave you a message?  If so, what did he say?
CL:  Dad, I have some news...

Q.  What emotions did you feel when you finally found out the news?  Did you say anything to Tim you'd like to share?
CL:  I couldn't have been more proud. And at the same time reflecting on the years I developed my philosophies on pitching with my father and in turn to my oldest Sean and Tim. One thing I'll share is; "This is one of the times in his life it's ok to howl at the moon".

Q.  What are you and your family going to do to celebrate this achievement?
CL:  Reflect with each other; which is what we did.

Q.  We also heard that Tim's going to be on the cover of the popular MLB 2K9 Baseball videogames.  What do you think of that?
CL:  He's a perfect fit for it. Young, talented, unique, humble and a fan of video games himself.

Q.  Do you play, or did you use to play videogames?  If so, what are your favorites?
CL: I don't play the games anymore. But I played Atari and other original video games in the past.

Q.  Is there anything you or Tim would like to say to the growing number of fans out there?
CL: I'd just say, "That I'm so grateful for the sincere support they've given him. And that the way he appears is just the way he is." He's a better man than I.

Tim's Cy Young Press Conference

December 3, 2009
by David Brown, Y! Big League Stew Sports Blog

On the way to a function with one of his sponsors, two-time NL Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum gave the Stew a call to discuss how his offseason is going.

With the stipulation that no questions be asked about you-know-what, we ventured into Timmy's world for a brief chat about salary arbitration, Christmas and more.

Q: You've won a Cy Young in each of your first two full seasons. Is it reasonable for you to say, "I should be the highest-paid pitcher in baseball"?

Tim Lincecum: I don't know how to ... I mean, I don't think I would ever say that. At the same time, I'm not the one negotiating. I'm just kind of sitting back, waiting and seeing how it goes this winter.

Q: Clubs can say nasty things about players at arbitration. Are you prepared to hear the bad things the Giants might say about you?

TL: Yeah. I think hold a higher standard for myself than I'm sure my employer does.

Q: If it comes down to a hearing, do you plan to go personally?

TL: [Pause]. I don't know. I just have to wait and see if it gets that far.

Q: The next version of the video game you starred in last year has Evan Longoria on the cover. How does it feel to pass the torch?

TL: It's fine with me, that's just the way it goes. I'm happy for Evan; it's a great experience. I'm glad I got to go through it and now somebody else does.

Q: Do you have any idea what kind of catcher Buster Posey is going to make?

TL: For what short spurts we've gotten to see him, he's definitely shown potential. I got to see him in spring training. He had a pretty good year coming up through the minors. It was a tough spot for him to be in, I'm sure, at the end of the year being plugged in there. But he did his best and that's really all you can ask from him. Experience is going to be key with him, like with any player, so we'll see what happens.

Q: There have been reports of Pablo ["Kung Fu Panda"] Sandoval slimming down with some intense offseason training. But who's ever heard of a skinny Panda?

TL: I don't know; I didn't know (pandas) were all fat, either. I just thought they were fuzzy looking, cute little bears.
